LIke told, the symptoms of eczema can vary depending on the age of the individual. Mostly common in infants, the size usually includes dry and scaly patches on the skin. Causes

The cause of eczema is not fully known. An overactive immune system is also known to be the cause of eczema when exposed to irritants. During eczema the immune system attacks the proteins that are an important part of the human body but ignores the proteins of invaders, such as bacteria or viruses. This is an autoimmune system disorder that causes inflammation when the immune system fails to work accordingly.

When one or more signs of eczema appear on the screen, it indicates eczema flare-up. The common causes of eczema flare-ups may include:

  • chemicals found in cleaners and detergents
  • using rough scratchy material, like wool

  • elevated body temperature
  • sweating
  • temperature changes
  • a sudden drop in humidity
  • stress
  • food allergies
  • animal dander
  • upper respiratory infections

Diagnosis

There is no specific test that can be done to diagnose eczema. Your doctor will do a physical examination by looking at your signs. Another test called patch tests can help identify certain allergens that trigger symptoms like skin allergies associated with eczema. During a patch test, an allergen is used to check if you are reactant to it. In case you are, the skin will become inflamed and irritated.
